The golden rule: pack layers. Coastal Nova Scotia can go from sunny to foggy, windy and wet within an hour, and fall mornings on deck can be cold.

Don’t Forget

  • Passport (required for one-way sailings; recommended for all) or birth certificate and photo ID for closed-loop round-trips.
  • A credit card without foreign transaction fees; Canada uses the Canadian dollar.
  • Motion-sickness remedies for open-Atlantic stretches.
  • An outfit for the ship’s dressier evenings.
  • Check your phone plan for Canada roaming before you sail.

Leave at Home

  • Lots of beachwear: one swimsuit for the ship’s pools and hot tubs is plenty.
  • Heavy suitcases of sweaters: two or three layering pieces mix and match across the trip.
  • Fancy shoes for port days; rocks, hills and wet sidewalks call for practical footwear.
