Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda

Port days, June 11 and 12, 2026. Most cruise ships from the US Northeast tie up at King’s Wharf in Royal Naval Dockyard, on Bermuda’s West End, and many stay overnight. That gives you an evening on the water and a full day ashore without ever needing a taxi. We spent ours on a sunset rum cruise around the Great Sound, watching the ships light up after dark, exploring the National Museum of Bermuda and lingering over rum swizzles. These 32 photos show what a Bermuda port stay from Norwegian Breakaway looks like.

Sunset Rum Cruise on the Great Sound

A catamaran leaves right from the Dockyard pier, Gosling’s in hand, for a slow loop past the islands of the Great Sound as the sun goes down.

Ships at King’s Wharf After Dark

Coming back in at blue hour, the cruise ships at the Dockyard are lit up end to end, and Breakaway’s Peter Max hull art glows on the water.

National Museum of Bermuda

Inside the old fortress Keep, a short walk from the pier, exhibits tell how convicts and enslaved workers quarried the stone and built the Dockyard.

Lunch and Rum Swizzles in Dockyard

No Bermuda port day is complete without a rum swizzle, and the Dockyard has pubs and restaurants just steps from the ship.

Tips for Visiting Bermuda on a Cruise

  • Know your pier: ships from New York, New Jersey and Boston usually dock at King’s Wharf in Royal Naval Dockyard, so the museum, shops, pubs and boat tours are all within walking distance.
  • Use the overnight: many Bermuda sailings stay two or three days, so book an evening sunset or rum cruise for the first night and save the beaches and towns for your full day.
  • Get around by ferry or bus: public ferries run from the Dockyard to Hamilton and St. George’s, and a transportation pass is the easiest way to pay. Check the current schedule at the terminal.
  • Allow two hours for the museum: the National Museum of Bermuda covers the Keep, its ramparts and several exhibit halls, and the views from the walls are worth the climb.
  • Pack for sun and showers: Bermuda summers are hot and humid with quick passing storms, so bring sunscreen, a hat and a light rain layer.
  • Check before you go: confirm museum hours, admission and tour times for your port dates, since they change by season.
