Celebrity Edge Class Guide: Magic Carpet, Rooftop Garden and More

Celebrity’s Edge class reinvented what a premium big ship looks like. Here’s what makes these five ships special and how to make the most of a sailing.

The ships

  • Celebrity Edge (2018)
  • Celebrity Apex (2020)
  • Celebrity Beyond (2022), slightly larger with more outdoor space
  • Celebrity Ascent (2023)
  • Celebrity Xcel (2025), the newest

Signature spaces

The Magic Carpet

A cantilevered platform on the side of the ship that moves between decks. It works as a tender dock, a restaurant, a bar and a sunset lounge, depending on the deck. Book the specialty dinner on it for a one-of-a-kind meal.

Rooftop Garden

An outdoor garden with lounge seating, evening live music and outdoor movies. It’s the best spot on the ship at sunset.

Resort Deck and Solarium

The Resort Deck is the main pool area, with cabanas and the Martini Bar’s outdoor terrace on newer ships. The Solarium is an adults-only covered pool.

Eden

A three-deck, glass-walled space that combines a restaurant, bar and performance venue. The dining is excellent but pricey.

Dining highlights

  • Four included main restaurants with distinct menus
  • Le Petit Chef, a projection-mapped dinner show that’s great with kids
  • Fine Cut Steakhouse and Raw on 5
  • Rooftop Garden Grill, a casual barbecue

Cabins

Infinite Verandas dominate the standard balcony categories. Edge Villas, two-level suites with plunge pools, and the Iconic Suites are among the most spectacular rooms at sea. See our cabin guide.

Which Edge-class ship to choose?

They’re very similar. Beyond, Ascent and Xcel are slightly larger and have the best outdoor spaces. Choose by itinerary and price, not ship.

FAQ

Are Edge-class ships good in bad weather?

Yes. Infinite Verandas and lots of indoor-outdoor space make them comfortable in cooler climates, which is why they’re popular for Alaska and Northern Europe.
