Princess Cruises Ships Ranked: Every Class Explained (2027)

Princess Cruises is known for Alaska, MedallionClass technology and a relaxed, classic cruise atmosphere. Here’s how its fleet breaks down.

Sphere Class: Princess’s newest ships

Ships: Sun Princess and Star Princess.

Sphere-class ships are built around The Dome, a glass-domed entertainment and pool venue, plus the three-deck Piazza and a much bigger dining lineup. Package prices are $5 higher per day on these ships.

Best for: travelers who want the newest Princess experience.

Royal Class

Ships: Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess, Sky Princess, Enchanted Princess and Discovery Princess.

These ships have the SeaWalk (a glass walkway over the ocean), Movies Under the Stars, the Sanctuary adult retreat and large balcony-heavy cabin layouts. Discovery and Majestic Princess are Alaska favorites. Regal Princess sails Canada and New England from New York in 2027.

Best for: most travelers, with the best balance of features and price.

Grand Class

Ships: Caribbean Princess, Crown Princess, Emerald Princess, Ruby Princess, Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess.

These are classic Princess ships with Movies Under the Stars and the Sanctuary. Caribbean Princess sails 10-night Boston to Quebec City Canada and New England cruises in 2027, and Sapphire Princess sails the same route in fall 2026.

Best for: value and port-focused itineraries.

Coral Class: Panama Canal specialists

Ships: Coral Princess and Island Princess.

Built to the maximum size for the original Panama Canal locks, these ships are the go-to for full Panama Canal transits and Alaska cruisetours.

Quick picks

  • Newest: Sun or Star Princess

FAQ

Is Princess good for families?

Yes for families with older kids. The Camp Discovery kids’ program is solid, but Princess is quieter than Royal Caribbean or Carnival.

What is MedallionClass?

A wearable Medallion that unlocks your cabin, handles payments, and lets you order food and drinks anywhere on the ship. It’s standard fleetwide.
