First Time on Princess Cruises? MedallionClass and Everything Else to Know

Princess is a favorite for couples, Alaska travelers and anyone who wants a classic, relaxed cruise with great service. Here’s what to know before your first sailing.

MedallionClass

Every guest gets an OceanMedallion, a small wearable disc mailed before you sail or picked up at the port. It:

  • Unlocks your cabin as you approach
  • Pays for purchases onboard
  • Lets the crew deliver food and drinks to wherever you are on the ship (OceanNow)
  • Speeds up embarkation

Download the MedallionClass app to check in, upload your photo and use these features.

Before you sail

  • Complete check-in in the app and choose your arrival time.
  • Decide on Princess Plus or Premier at least 96 hours before departure for the lower price. See Plus vs. Premier.
  • Book specialty dining and excursions early, especially in Alaska.

Dining

Choose traditional fixed seating or flexible “anytime” dining. Free venues include the main dining rooms, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet, International Café, Alfredo’s Pizzeria and room service (delivery fee unless you have a package). Specialty dining includes Crown Grill and Sabatini’s.

Dress code

Smart casual. Expect one or two optional formal nights on a 7-night cruise, when many guests dress up.

Highlights

  • Movies Under the Stars on the pool deck
  • The Sanctuary, a serene adults-only retreat (extra cost)
  • Champagne waterfalls on select nights
  • North to Alaska programming on Alaska sailings

Tips

  1. Use OceanNow to order drinks at the pool. It’s genuinely useful.
  2. Book Alaska excursions as soon as they open.
  3. Pack layers, even on summer sailings.
  4. Bring a dressier outfit for formal nights.
