Best Time to Cruise the Caribbean from New England
When to escape a New England winter, when fares dip, and whether to drive to a Northeast port or fly to Florida.
The Caribbean sails year-round, so the question for most of our New Hampshire and New England clients is not just which month, but which port. A drive-to sailing from Boston, New York or New Jersey avoids flights entirely, while a Florida sailing gets you to warm water faster. Season and port work together, so we plan them together.
Season vs. departure port
| Months | Fares | Best departure option | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| January–March | Mid to high (wave season deals) | Fly to Florida | Driest weather; Northeast sailings take two cold sea days to reach warm water. |
| February & April school vacations | Highest | Fly to Florida, book early | New England school weeks sell out; family cabins go first. |
| May–June | Moderate | Drive to New York or New Jersey | Warm, before peak hurricane season; Northeast sailings become pleasant. |
| July–August | High for families | Either | Summer vacation demand; hot and humid in port. |
| September–early December | Lowest | Fly to Florida | Peak hurricane season brings bargains but itinerary changes are more likely. |
Our timing advice
Wave season
January through March brings the year’s strongest promotions. Good time to book next winter’s cruise.
Fly in early in winter
A New England snowstorm can ground flights. For January–March sailings we strongly recommend arriving the day before.
Insure fall sailings
Hurricane-season bargains are real, but travel insurance and flexible flights matter more then.
