Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, and for many families it’s the highlight of the whole cruise. Some of the best parts of the island are free, while others cost as much as a theme park ticket. Here’s how to plan the day.
What’s free
- Chill Island beaches: the island’s main stretch of beach with plenty of loungers
- Oasis Lagoon: the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, with a swim-up bar (drinks extra)
- Splashaway Bay: a kids’ splash park with slides and water cannons
- Food: complimentary dining venues across the island, including Skipper’s Grill and Chill Grill
- Water sports areas and walking paths
What costs extra
- Thrill Waterpark: Daredevil’s Peak (one of North America’s tallest waterslides), a wave pool and a lazy river
- Hideaway Beach: an adults-only beach club with a DJ, infinity pool and included food (drinks separate)
- Coco Beach Club: an upscale club with the Caribbean’s first overwater cabanas
- Up, Up and Away: a helium balloon ride 450 feet above the island (weather permitting)
- Cabanas, snorkel tours and jet ski excursions
Pricing tips
Island add-on prices change with demand and ship size. They’re lowest when booked early in the Cruise Planner and highest close to sailing. A day with three or four big ships in port drives Thrill Waterpark prices up. We check how many ships are scheduled before recommending upgrades.
Drinks on the island
Royal Caribbean drink packages work at CocoCay, including the swim-up bar. Without a package, drinks are charged to your SeaPass.
How to plan the day
- Get off the ship early. The first hours are the least crowded.
- Claim loungers on Chill Island, or head to the far beaches for more space.
- If you booked Thrill Waterpark, ride Daredevil’s Peak first, before lines build.
- Have lunch on the island instead of returning to the ship.
- Check the “all aboard” time in the app and return 30 minutes early.
Is the waterpark worth it?
For kids 8–16 and thrill-seekers, usually yes. For families with toddlers, Splashaway Bay plus the beach is plenty, and you’ll save a few hundred dollars.
More private destinations on the way
Royal Caribbean also visits Labadee in Haiti, when it’s on the schedule, and has opened its Royal Beach Club in Nassau. Perfect Day Mexico, planned to be about twice the size of CocoCay, is scheduled for 2027.
