Disney’s main homeports are in Florida, but New England families have good options, especially if you plan the travel day well. Here’s how to get from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and the rest of New England to a Disney ship.
Port Canaveral (Orlando area)
Port Canaveral is Disney’s busiest homeport, about an hour from Orlando International Airport. It’s ideal for combining a Walt Disney World vacation with a cruise. Ships here sail 3- to 7-night Bahamas and Caribbean cruises to Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay.
Getting there: nonstop flights from Boston (BOS), Manchester (MHT) and Providence (PVD) to Orlando (MCO). Fly in the day before.
Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
Disney Destiny sails 3- to 7-night Bahamas and Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale. It’s easy to reach from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airport, about 10 minutes away.
What about New York?
Disney has offered seasonal sailings from New York in some past years, including Canada, Bermuda and Bahamas itineraries. Schedules change year to year, so ask us whether a New York season is planned for your dates. When it’s offered, it’s the only no-fly Disney option for New England families.
Alaska from Vancouver
Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sail 7-night Alaska cruises from Vancouver in summer. Most visit Dawes Glacier. Flights from Boston connect easily.
Tips for the travel day
- Always fly in the day before. Disney won’t hold the ship for delayed flights.
- Book the earliest port arrival time you can at online check-in.
- Consider Disney’s transfer options from Orlando.
- Pack a carry-on with swimsuits and medications, since checked bags arrive in the evening.
